The ''An Eggs-cellent Way to Plan'' helps me to understand a lot of things need a careful planning in advance in order to reach the objective. I believe our group totally learn this from the game.
The game was to decide how use 8 straws and 2 feets long tape to build a protection for an egg so that it wouldnt break when it hit the ground from two feets high. Also, we had to be careful not to cover 50% of surface of the egg. We had 30 minutes planning before the procedure of building the protection.
Some of the members in our group were making different graphs and designs about the outfit for the egg. We were pretty sucessful in coming out different fantastic ideas of doing it. However, we didn't have enough mangement to combine our ideas as the time was running out fastly.
I think that if we had more time to come out a combined graph of our protection device for the egg, we could have suceeded in winning the game. I think what is need to be done just if we can restart the game again. We should asign a leader to drop down everyone's idea and think about a new, combined one or to choose a preferable idea. This will be more effective to get a better idea without time wasting. Moreover, we should let the person with the best building skill to build the protection for the egg. If the protection is not solid or tough enough, it will be break easily. Moreover, we can choose the shortest person in our group to drop the egg so that the length from the person's hand to the floor can be as limit as possible.

ReplyDeleteI believe this is the only thing that may have affected your planning. If there was a designated agenda or the steps to planning were followed, your project may have been much more successful. I do however like the idea of specialization in this project- that is, assigning specific tasks to those who specialize or have experience in the task at hand. This addresses the issue of "time" and speeds up the whole process, allowing more time for implementing an executing the plan.
Im pretty sure if everybody had another chance to do this activity again, more would succeed!

ReplyDeleteIt seemed like your group members were very active in this planning process, it’s the time management that was the problem. I agree with you in that it’s essential to have a leader in a group, or at least someone that can coordinate the whole process to make everything go smoothly. Even though both of our groups did not win in the end but you made a good point in my blog that it’s not winning/losing that matters - it’s the experience we gained from this project. I’m pretty sure if we encounter another of this kind of project, we’ll know better in what to do and how to organize the group more efficiently. :)
ReplyDeleteEven though you were not sucessful in your planning atleast your group seemed very active and at the end you relieze what you had done wrong and what needed to be done next time to accoplish your goals. I believed a lot of groups did not watch the time and was also facing the same problem. However, now that you know what you need to focus on next time you are able to allocate your time and resources more wisely.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you. For this activity, we all running in a rush in order to come up some good ideas and good protection for an egg. However, this tells us we have to do a good planning. If our plan are not so good, the results come up will definitely not match as what we think about. If we can do an experiment first, understand what is our failure, I believe that all of us can archive our goals.
